Tennessee Amends Workers’ Compensation rules (July 1, 2024)
- New updates to employer reporting requirements:
- Employers must submit all known or reported injuries or illnesses to their insurance carriers on Tennessee Employer’s First Report of Work Injury or Illness (Form C-20) within one working day of knowledge of the injury or illness.
- Additionally, an employer must report each accident resulting in a work-related death or personal injury to the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation no later than 14 calendar days after the earlier of the date the employer is notified of the accident or the date the employer has knowledge of the accident
- New updates to calculation of employer penalties for contractors and others who fail to maintain necessary workers’ compensation insurance.
Tennessee Aligns Hours Worked with FLSA (July 1, 2024)
- Effective July 1, 2024, Tennessee defined work under its wage and hour law to have the same meaning as interpreted by the United States Supreme Court under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and to exclude certain pre- and post-shift activities and de minimis time.
